Balancing Acts is a vivid and lighthearted illustration book intended to introduce the concept of balance to our youth stemming from an early age. This literary work was inspired by personal life experiences and challenges which surfaced intermittently throughout the lives of Mia and Maximo, real life mother and son. Both Mia and Maximo worked in collaboration to bring life and humor to children and their respective parents worldwide via this published work.

Normia Vazquez Scales (Mia) is an active single mother, author, motivational speaker, educator and life coach. Mia passionately advocates and promotes balance to both adults and youth alike. However, her specialty/niche embodies aiding disadvantaged women yearning to re-hydrate, reinvent and become reacquainted with their former and new selves. Her spare time is spent volunteering at school oriented events at her son, Maximo's elementary school, working with children and engaging in senior companion care.
Maximo Vazquez Scales is a young author and artist. He partakes in a variety of extracurricular activities inclusive of: tennis, swimming, flag football and especially soccer in which he excels. Maximo has studied both Suzuki piano since age 2 and has since transitioned to studying and performing classical piano in which he performs by ear and reads music. In 2013 Maximo was nominated and accepted into the Gifted Education Program in which he flourishes to date.
