I have been a intervention specialist for 17 years. I have taught every grade level from pre-k to 12th grade (ages 3-22). I have taught SLD, cognitive behavior, down syndrome, autism, hearing impaired, medically fragile, and physically handicapped students. I went into teaching because of the family. I am the oldest of 11 children. I have 10 siblings from various countries, with various disabilities. My mom went to college after we were all in school, to obtain and intervention specialist degree. Then she went on to get her school counseling and professional counseling (play therapist) degrees. I have worked in her classroom and with some of her clients in a school setting. I currently am an intervention specialist in a high school, multiple disabilities classroom. I love my students, my assistances and my job. I wouldn't trade it for the world.
