AWARD WINNER: Best Class-Authored Picture Book, Great Valley Bookfest, 2013 • greatvalleybookfest.org/winningbooks • This book was created by K-3 students at the GVWP Writing and Technology Workshop in Manteca, California. Workshop leader Stacy Sims shared Giles Andreae's charming picture book, "Giraffes Can't Dance," in the classroom. Afterward, children engaged in music, movement, and art activities to explore the many ways that animals might actually dance. They wrote sentences to describe their imaginative visions.

GREAT VALLEY WRITING PROJECT is a state-chartered, nonprofit organization that works to improve student learning and achievement by improving the teaching of writing in schools. As a founding member of the National Writing Project, GVWP has provided services for teachers and students in central California since 1983. Despite drastic cuts in government funding, GVWP continues to operate with support from public and private grants, largely due to a network of skilled and experienced educators who recognize that TEACHERS are the key to educational reform.
