About the Book

Telling stories about our lives has been done since the beginning of time. In the beginning it was etched on cave walls or written on stone. Now, we can tell our story with pictures and the written word. All of us have a story to tell. All of us have a legacy to share.

I have chosen to share a story for my grandchildren. It is the story of the famous Mayflower adventure in 1620. In particular, their great-grandfather, John Howland. He has a legacy that mirrors the freedom of the "United States of America."

His legacy begins with his indentured servanthood for John Carver aboard the Mayflower. Included in this adventure as William Bradford recorded, his falling overboard during a fierce storm while sailing on the Mayflower.

In 1623 John Howland married Elizabeth Tilley. Both of her parents died the first year in Plymouth. They had 10 surviving children. John Howland became the Lt. Governor and later, Deputy of the Plymouth Colonies.
