Little Jay's day at the playground demonstrates the development of empathy. Empathy is the ability to identify with and understand another person's feelings. At five and six years of age, children become more aware of their own emotions thus moving away from the self-centered period of growth. Jay's Day of Play shows that practicing empathy is a process critical at this time and an important skill to have throughout life.
