Childhood depression occurs in about 5 percent of children. It can even occur in children as young as 3 years old. Jessie Feels Sad is for children approximately 3 to 11 years old. It is not intended to diagnose or to be used as a substitution for seeking professional care. This book is simply a communication tool to open a dialog between the child and his or her caregiver. The author's hope is to provide the adult with a better understanding of how to recognize the signs and symptoms; as well as to know when they should seek professional care for the child. Jessie Feels Sad includes a short, sweet story between a father and son regarding the child's feelings and together they have an open dialog developing methods for the child to do when he begins to feel sad. The book includes a section for the child and adult to write their own ideas of what the child could do to help make themselves feel better and a journal for the child to write or draw in to better express themselves. Additionally, there is an adult section for more information and resources regarding childhood depression.
