Welcome to our Super Hero book! One Day in April, 2013, "Super Idea Woman" appeared in our classroom and read the book, The Astonishing Secret of Awesome Man, by Michael Chabon. It's all about a boy who turns into Awesome Man and defeats terrible villains.
Then it was our turn to write super hero stories. First, we discussed common attributes of Super Heroes: their special uniforms, super powers, villain enemies, sidekicks, secret hide-outs, and secret identities. Then, we wrote our drafts and created illustrations to go with our stories. Finally, our teachers helped us to revise and publish this book. You know what's cool? You can read this book on-line, or you can look at the book in our classroom. And, you can even order a copy of the book for your family (just ask our teacher how to do this).
Thank you for reading our book. Anyone can imagine being a super hero - it's fun! You can even be one for real...by being a super friend, helping someone, or by cleaning up villain litter!

We are going to be third graders soon, but right now we are second graders at Mary Hogan Elementary School in Middlebury, Vermont:
Natalie Bergeron, Kagen Besser-Jones, Kayden Brown, Madison Cram, Devon Cyr, Ashlee Denis, Lydia Dragon, Ayonna Foster, Shannon Gillett, Amanda Gomes, Dahlia Harrison, Lily Lapiner, Peter Lynch, Lia Robinson, Cole Schnoor, Ele Sellers, Cameron Stone, Fynn Whitlock, and Zachary Wilkerson.
In second grade, we have become even better readers, writers and mathematicians! We study many topics, like China, penguins, and pond life. We also have special classes in art and music, and have physical education classes. Of course, we have recess - and our teachers let us start our day with outside time.
This year our literacy teachers have been Melissa Flint and Julie Berg, and Ms. Corrigan was our math teacher for part of the year. Mrs. King is Mary Hogan School's literacy coach, and she helped us create our stories.
