About the Book

Michael! Your going to be late for your first day of school cried out his Mother Diane. "I’m coming Mom!" replied Michael. He quickly ran down the stairs and sat on the table to eat breakfast. "Are you excited to make new friends" asked his Mother, “Of course Momma! I hope I make lots and lots of friends" he replied. "I'm sure you will sweetie, now hurry up and get your stuff”. Michael and his Mom rushed out to the car and headed off to school.

BEEP! BEEP! The cars honked trying to rush out of the school parking lot. Colematt Elementary, Michael read the sign. There were kids running all over the place greeting old friends and meeting new ones.

“Mom quick check if I have food stuck in my teeth.” exclaimed Michael.” “Michael your fine now quit making a fuss out of your first day of school. You know if you didn’t want anything in your teeth you should floss.” Michael’s mother was having a rough day as it was. Taking a gigantic breathe of air he said goodbye to his mother and walked down the hall to find his new class. "Ding dong!" rang the school bell. He quickly licked his hands and fixed his hair and started running to class before he would be late.

Michael walked into class with a big smile. "Welcome, you must be Michael my name is Ms. Winky and I am your teacher. Go ahead and take a seat” instructed Ms. Winky. Michael smiled and thought to himself "Ms. Winky has a beautiful smile she must be nice." Michael rushed to the nearest empty seat and sat down.

“I have exciting news” said Ms. Winky. “We will be getting in groups of four and doing research on butterflies outside! Lucas the smarty in class leaned over and told Michael "Did you know Butterflies taste with their feet!” "No way!" replied Michael. Everyone got into their groups but Michael had a problem. A BIG, BIG, problem. Michael had NO group!

Lucas ran over to Michael and asked “Wanna join buddy?” he was relieved. He didn’t want to make it obvious that he was desperate to join a group but he just didn’t know anyone. “Sure!” he replied. Michael and Lucas walked over to Mario and Pepé, the other two classmates in the group. “Michael meet Mario and Pepé.” Said Lucas. “Hello!” Michael waved his hand rapidly.

It was time for lunch everybody ran out of class to find their friends. Michael stayed behind. Mario ran back for Michael and said “Michael hurry! We don’t want to miss out on the good food!” They ran out of class, rushed to the line and got their lunch.

At the table Mario stood up on the bench and yelled “Mandatory meeting today after school, everyone must go! We need a new place we can meet at!” “Maybe? Uhmmm, maybe like a tree house?” Asked Michael. “Wow Michael, you have a tree house?” exclaimed Mario. “Michael, join our exclusive club! Added Pepe! “Spirit Adventures is only for explorers!” said Lucas.

Oh no! Michael thought to himself, well it was only a suggestion, but now what do I say? What if they don’t want me anymore if I tell them I don’t have a tree house?” Michael paused and thought for a moment. “Uh…Uh…Yea...I mean, YEA sure!” replied Michael. “When can we meet up?” asked the boys “Well…you see we still need to unpack some stuff I’ll let you guys know.” “Sure thing” said Mario. Michael was only thinking about fitting in but he did not think about how he was jeopardizing his reputation with his new friends, he would go from new friends to no friends in seconds in they found out.

“Ding Dong!” rang the school bell. It was time for everybody to go back to class. Michael’s friends wouldn’t stop talking about Michael’s tree house! They kept asking about what it looked like. “It’s super big! My Dad is giving it a paint job. Ohh.. Ohh and it’s made out of hickory wood which is one of the hardest woods out there.” replied Michael in not a monotone but dynamic way. Michael didn’t know what to say anymore he just wanted to go home and hope they would forget about it. He didn’t feel comfortable saying one lie after another he knew it wasn’t the right thing to do.

After school everybody ran out of class to go home. Diane, Michael’s Mom was waiting for him outside. Michael walked over to his mother to go home. “Michael! I can’t wait until we go to your tree house” shouted Lucas in an elated, very happy way. “Your tree house?” asked Diane. “What tree house?” asked Michael’s Mom. She thought the whole idea was ludicrous, just simply ridiculous that Michael would lie about something he didn’t have. “Mom I lied to my new friends about a tree house! But it wasn’t my intention I’m serious! I meant to suggest a tree house for their meetings and they thought I meant I had a tree house! And now I don’t know what to do! What if they don’t like me anymore and I lose my friends!”

Michael’s mom told him to do the right thing and tell them the truth. Although she condemned, didn’t approve of the way Michael approached to fit in she still gave him advice. The next day Michael went over to Lucas, Mario and Pepé and said “I’m sorry for what I have to tell you but I don’t have a tree house, I lied to you yesterday.” Michael explained to his friends and they where very upset. “Michael,” Said Pepé “We’re going to give you one more chance! If we ever catch you lying again we will never be able to be friends again.” “YEA!” Added Lucas, “You should have told us the truth, we don’t like you because of your tree house but because you’re a spirit adventure explorer and is never melancholy but always super happy.” From that day on Michael never lied to fit in and he saw that he kept making more and more friends as the days went by.
