Migration
Every life has a story ebbs and flows. From birth to death, adolescence to adulthood, we are constantly reshaping our lives. From the 1920s to the 1970s, six million people were involved in the great migration from the rural south to the northern states in search of a better life. My parents came to Chicago in the late 1940s. They became fully immersed in a new culture, education and job opportunities, blues and jazz clubs, but they would never forget the road they traveled to get there. Today people continue to migrate carrying their homeland in their hearts. This collection of poems tells stories from my life as well as stories of some of the people I’ve met along the way.
