A book of prose and poetry written by my grandfather.
Edward Gaines was born in 1900 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. A man of limited education, he found it very difficult to support his wife and fifteen children throughout his adult life. Alcohol became his solace as well as the writing of poetry. It is not known how many poems he wrote in his lifetime, but the ones contained in this book were saved by his daughter after his death who handed them down to her daughter after her demise. Granddaughter Scarlett Finney was so impressed by the depth of her grandfather's feeling and reverence expressed in his writings that she felt they should be shared with the world.
