About the Book

Ranger the Therapy Dog is a heartwarming story created by the students of The Foundry Learning Center in New York City—an incredible group of children with autism or a related developmental disorder who share a special bond with Ranger, a certified therapy dog.

Each week, Ranger and his handlers, Michael Rapaport and Diane Salazar, visit schools, hospitals, and wellness events across NYC to bring smiles, comfort, and connection. This book, written and illustrated with the students, celebrates kindness, inclusion, and the joy that comes from friendship with a furry friend.

100 percent of the net proceeds benefit New York Therapy Animals and Advocates for Children of New York, two organizations making a lasting difference in the lives of children and families.

Michael Rapaport and Diane Salazar are proud volunteers with New York Therapy Animals and the devoted handlers of Ranger, a certified therapy dog. Together, they visit NYU Langone Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital every Monday, bringing smiles, comfort, and companionship to children and families.

In addition to their hospital work, Michael and Diane take part in special wellness visits and community events across New York City, sharing Ranger’s warmth wherever it’s needed most.

Michael and Ranger also visit The Foundry Learning Center every Friday, where they spend time with a classroom of children with autism or related developmental disorders—the inspiration for this book.

They live in Manhattan and continue to spread “comfort, support, and smiles” wherever they go.
