The Shih Tzu (meaning "lion") is one of the most popular dogs in the United States and is characteristically known by its solid, compact body and long flowing double coat. This dog is sweet and playful though he is definitely not afraid to stand up for himself! Another one from royalty, the Shih Tzu has been cherished by Chinese royals as house pets for over a thousand years. It is believed the breed descended from crossing the Lhasa Apso or Tibetan mountain dog and Pekingese. The Shih Tzu was discovered by soldiers in England during World War II, and has been nuzzling its way into our hearts ever since.
