The enduring fabric of world literature is lined with characters that exemplify patterns for the variety of literary archetypes that fill our collective unconscious. Among the most prominent of these characters are heroes, both epic and tragic, and the character archetypes that interact with these heroes. After having analyzed literary heroes, such as Gilgamesh and Oedipus, these Sophomore English, Honors students took on the task of developing a cast of characters, including a hero and related characters, to craft their own epic or tragic narratives. Here, in these stories, students demonstrate how these hero archetypes can be applied to modern hero stories written today, and it is my great privilege and honor as their teacher to share their writing – and diverse worlds of experience and adventure – with you.
