Ever since the 14th century, a legendary monster has terrorized the residence of a castle located in Bavaria, Germany. According to legend, the monster appears once every fifty years to cause destruction around the castle's village until it has captured a victim. In the present day, Rachel Holmwood is hired by the castle's owner to discover the truth behind the recent monster sightings, before the monster can strike again. Will Rachel solve the mystery? Author Shelby Strogen claimed that the storyline for the book is base on the Nancy Drew game "The Captive Curse". "Playing the game made me feel like I was in a Frankenstein movie" she commented "It made me feel absolutely terrified with its eerie sounds and nighttime forest setting along with the village, I even screamed when the monster jumped out at me".
