In 1641, a young, 12-year-old boy named Elijah manages to escape his life as a slave on a tobacco plantation in Southern Virginia. His parents sneak Elijah and his younger twin brother and sister off into the night, so they can start their travels to Plymouth Colony hoping to become free African Americans and have a better life. It is a long and tough journey by foot. Will they survive? Will Elijah and his siblings get to the North safely? Find out in the new book "The Runaway".

My name is Alex Murphy. I will be turning twelve years old in January of 2015. I am an outgoing, friendly, and mostly positive person. My family says that I am a well-rounded child because I like a little bit of sports, a little bit of school, and a little bit of church and extra activities. I have enjoyed drawing since I was three years old. At Grafton Bethel Elementary School, I was in the art guild program for three years; my design made the yearbook cover last year; and I was chosen to draw the middle square for the principal’s retirement quilt. I was lucky enough to be chosen for the Grafton Bethel Lego Team in which we won first place at the regional competitions two years in a row, as well as first place for teamwork at the state competition. I love playing any sport, but my favorite sport is basketball. I have also been an acolyte at my church for two years and really enjoy being part of the youth group. I am enjoying being a middle schooler at Grafton Middle..
