The author was born in San Jose, Costa Rica. She has lived in several Central American countries, including Costa Rica, Nicaragua, and Honduras. In the United States, she has had the privilege of living in California, Arkansas, Virginia, and West Virginia. She draws from her memories and life experiences to create free-verse poetry. The author feels that poetry is a very personal thing and that sharing poetry is a vulnerable, dangerous thing. However, she feels that the beauty of language needs to be shared even if it involves a risk.
