Janette K Hopper is a North Carolina printmaker, painter, mask-maker, and performance artist. She grew up in Idaho, was a professor in Washington state and Michigan before moving to chair the art department at UNCP. She makes her home in Wilmington. She works fulltime in her studio when she is not traveling with her husband. While she works from observation, she also invents narratives, myths and social comment in her art. As an Argentine Tango dancer, she loves to speak Spanish. In the outdoors, she is an active biker, hiker and gardener.
During her university career, she taught in Denmark, Italy, Germany and in the United States. She received two prestigious Fulbrights, one from Denmark and one from the United States. These honors allowed her to spend a full year teaching and painting in Denmark and exhibiting in one-person shows in Europe and in group exhibits as a member of Paleur International. In total, her works have been in over 300 solo, invitational and group shows.
