St. Paul's Episcopal's Third Grade Class are the resident experts when it comes to the birds of Lake Merritt. Once a week they trek to the shores of this Oakland tributary to meticulously count the many birds that inhabit the Lake. Known city-wide for the accuracy and attention to detail, their bird counting data is used as the official bird census by the Oakland Parks and Rec department.
