Sandi grew up in California, where as a child, she had a love for storybooks. She began writing poetry in 1984, eventually creating poems and stories for her daughter, in 1985.

After moving to NAS Whidbey in Oak Harbor, Washington in 1992, where many military families were missing parents at Christmas time, she decided to pursue her passion and set to putting them down on paper, for other children to enjoy.
