About Author:
My name is Orville Anderson I was born in Manchester, Jamaica, W.I. on August 5, 1972. On August 18, 1990, I migrated to the United States with my mother and brother at the age of 18. I am a self-taught artist, and freelance writer who has always enjoyed a passion for painting. While attending "Harlem Horizon Art Studio", I started taking workshops where I further developed my gift.

I use my paint and canvas as a tool to express my inner character. My landscapes of the Jamaican ocean shore and countryside express the beauty in my homeland. My abstract artworks show some of the frustrations which have haunted me, such as the death of my father in 1984. Many of my paintings express my love of birds, children, family, and God. I work one-on-one at the 'Harlem Horizon Art Studio' with the children to help channel their special gifts, and talents. I teach them how to articulate their innermost emotions through their work; their anger, sadness, fears, hopes, and dreams. I paint because the children inspire me and I inspire them. In appreciation for my years of dedication to the children of the Harlem Community, I was awarded a grant from the New York Community Trust in 1993.

My paintings have been exhibited in New York at: Columbia University, Adam Clayton Powell, Jr., State Building, Kohn Pederson Fox Gallery, Harlem School of the Arts, the Pam Am Building, the Studio Museum in Harlem, and the Queens Independent Living Center. My works have also been exhibited nationally at the Children's National Medical Center in Washington, DC, the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, GA, and in a traveling exhibition that toured the country for two years. In honor of Black History Month, February 2002, my painting entitled 'Remembering September 9/11' was displayed at Columbia University's exhibition entitled 'Triumphant Artists.' In 2003, my painting entitled 'Remembering September 9/11' had an encore appearance and a debut showing of a collection entitled 'My Brothers and Sisters,' at the Rotunda Low Memorial Library, Columbia University.

During my spare time, I enjoy the beauty of nature, taking pictures, jogging, walking in the park, listening to music, church, and spending time with my family, and friends.
