I never really liked cooking. My mother was a good cook, who didn't have a lot of imagination or creativity but what she cooked she did well. Some of these recipes were handed down from her. When I was in High School, she would leave me notes on what to cook for dinner that night along with instructions. My favorite was the time she left instructions on how to make scalloped potatoes. Her instructions called for a couple of tablespoons of flour, but in my haste I added a cup of flour. I was like eating paste straight from a jar and everyone ate the potatoes without saying a word. Somehow, I managed to learn to cook but I will never understand how it finally happened.
